Setup guide
Connect your AI assistant to Stemma
Stemma runs a remote MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or any assistant that supports remote MCP with OAuth can read and update your own recipes, meal plan, shopping list and pantry. You sign in with your Stemma account and choose which permissions to approve. Stemma never sees your assistant's conversations, only the tool requests your assistant sends.
Before you start
- A Stemma account. Download Stemma for iPhone or iPad from the App Store and sign in. Every feature is free for 14 days; after that the connection requires Stemma Pro.
- An assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, such as Claude (web, desktop and mobile) or ChatGPT.
Server URL:
https://app.stemma.kitchen/mcp
Connect Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors. If Stemma is listed in the directory, choose it; otherwise select Add custom connector.
- Name it Stemma and paste the server URL above.
- Select Connect. A Stemma sign-in page opens: sign in with the same account you use in the app.
- Review the permissions and approve. Back in Claude, try “List my recipes”.
Connect ChatGPT or another assistant
- Open your assistant's apps, connectors or MCP settings and add a remote MCP server named Stemma with the server URL above.
- Choose OAuth if asked for an authentication method. You don't need an API key.
- Sign in to Stemma in the window that opens, review the permissions and approve.
The same steps are in the app under Settings → Connect an AI assistant, with a button that copies the URL.
What you can ask
- “Plan dinners for next week around what's in my pantry, and add what's missing to my shopping list.”
- “Make a lighter weeknight version of my Beef Ragù.” It's saved as a new variation; your original stays as it is.
- “Save this recipe to my weeknight collection.”
- “What's expiring in my fridge this week?”
- “Here's my grocery receipt — add it to my pantry.” Stemma shows a summary and asks you to confirm before anything is added.
Replies include links such as https://app.stemma.kitchen/open/planner that open the result directly in the Stemma app.
Permissions
When you connect, you approve access per area. Read permissions let the assistant look; write permissions let it make changes.
| Area | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Recipes and variations | recipes:read, recipes:write |
| Collections and books | collections:read, collections:write, books:read, books:write |
| Meal plan | mealplans:read, mealplans:write |
| Shopping list | shopping:read, shopping:write |
| Pantry | pantry:read, pantry:write |
| Grocery receipts and purchases | purchases:read, purchases:write |
| Cooking tips you've learned | learning:read |
Every tool is marked read-only or write, so your assistant can ask before changing anything. Deleting a recipe, meal or pantry location is always a separate, clearly labeled tool.
Disconnect
In the Stemma app, go to Settings → Connect an AI assistant → Connected assistants and tap Disconnect. Access is revoked immediately. You can also remove the connector in your assistant's settings.
Privacy and support
Your assistant only gets the data your approved permissions allow, and only when it calls a Stemma tool. See the privacy policy and terms. Questions or problems: support@stemma.kitchen.
